This Little Piggy Took a Bath

There are fewer things in life as as relaxing as feet soaking. The only thing that tops it is feet soaking with someone you love. My mom and I would sit on the edge of the tub whenever I would come home from college and we'd soak our toes and talk about stuff. Not deep stuff or complicated stuff, but stuff that made us laugh or that would catch us up. We'd scrub our heals with pumice stones and then take turns helping each other stand up and step out onto a towel. Then we'd take turns painting each others' toes and we'd lay on my parents' bed, watching whatever was on Mystery!, and fall asleep because we were so relaxed.

There's something about the way the water flows over your toes and then just kind of drains your stress away, which makes me think: I know that it was a custom in the time of the New Testament to wash your guests' feet. Can we bring this custom back? I know feet gross some people out but if I could make people coming into my home feel relaxed and welcome from their very first steps in my home, then why not?

  1. What a beautiful tradition to share with your mom. What a great mom you must have. Thanks for sharing this memory with us.

I have a friend who keeps offering to give me a pedicure. Guess I better take her up on it.

  3. Wow... I haven't had a pedicure in like, ten years. I was usually alone, though, which is still awesome, but it must be super cool to have a pedi-buddy.

  6. There's something so special about those side by side talks with daughters. Our favorite was a walk or a drive. Getting my feet soaked would be wonderful right now, but school calls. Thanks for sharing that wonderful time you've had with your mom. Enjoy your SITS Day.

  9. I've done this with my 9-year old daughter. It was fun. It would have been more fun if her brothers would have left us alone!! LOL!!

  10. I don't know about the washing the guest feet idea. I'm one of those people who are grossed out by feet. But it is nice to soak them every now and then!

    Happy SITS Day.
